Viagra and other drugs

Drug interactions with Viagra were studied in special trials of Sildenafil. Certain medications may influence on the Viagra effect, reducing or increasing it. Before using Viagra tell your doctor if you take other prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, herbs. Tell your doctor if you take other treatments for ED including other oral PDE5 inhibitors and herbal erectile enhancers. It is important to inform you doctor if you take nitrates for angina or other purposes before taking Viagra. The combination of any nitrate with Viagra may result in dangerous conditions such as heart attack. Certain medications such as alpha-blockers should not be mixed with Viagra. If you are recommended to use alpha-blockers for hypertension or prostate problem, do not use Viagra. Antifungal medication such as itraconazole (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Nizoral), miconazole (Oravig), or voriconazole (Vfend) can reduce the elimination of Viagra from the body. They should not be taken with Viagra concomitantly. Other medications with potential to interact with Viagra include:
  • bosentan (Tracleer);
  • cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB);
  • conivaptan (Vaprisol);
  • imatinib (Gleevec);
  • isoniazid;
  • rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifater, Rifamate);
  • nefazodone;
  • clarithromycin (Biaxin), dalfopristin/quinupristin (Synercid), erythromycin (E.E.S., EryPed, Ery-Tab, Erythrocin, Pediazole) or telithromycin (Ketek).
